Git extension 3.4

  • After updating to the latest version of the git extension I am getting the error:

An unexpected error occurred while attempting to connect. The specified executable is not a valid Win32 application.

with any action that tries to access the git executable. I've tried it both with the built in exe as well as a standard git.exe. I can run git commands from the machine via the command prompt with no issues. I've attempted to uninstall / reinstall the extension with no change. Running on a windows XP machine.

    Any suggestions?

  • Perhaps, try pointing the extension to use your git.exe instead of the built-in?

  • I did. I pointed it back to the same git.exe it was using before the update and it still threw the same error.

  • Switching the .exe should work fine... it looks like our embedded client (lilgit.exe) does not support XP. So, we'll be making Git 3.5. Stay tuned.

  • Thanks for the info.

In regard to switching the exe.. should I be able to save the change from using the built in exe to a standard one without hitting the "Test Connection" button?

When I try switching to an external git.exe and click the "Save" button, I can open the provider properties back up and the "Use Standard Git Client" option is unchecked again. Any other changes I make seem to save, just not changes to that option.

The same thing happens when I create a totally new provider / source as well. I set it up to "Use Standard Git Client" and hit save then open the new connection up and it shows as unselected.
