User Directory & Authentication Configuration

I'm completely new to BuildMaster and I'm trying to configure a new installation. I'd like the security to use Active Directory (LDAP) which I can see I can switch on in Admin > User Directory & Authentication Configuration. In Admin > Manage Built-In Users & Groups I've added users with name's like <Domain><Login> and just <Login> but after switching I can't access BuildMaster.
All the online documentation looks to be for an earlier version of BuildMaster so is of no use given I've downloaded v4.6.3.5. Even the in-app help in the Admin > User Directory & Authentication Configuration doesn't read correctly, "Note that changing the directory will also log you out, which may cause you to become locked out of BuildMaster, you may reset the provider using the Admin Tool installed with BuildMaster found under \Service subdirectory under ". Hoping for a quick response to this post as your live help is also offline.
So far not a great first impression!

While the "switch to LDAP page" should not allow changing directories if it's not configured properly, most likely the BuildMaster server is unable to query ldap.
