Do I need the ProGet Service running when hosting ProGet in IIS?

I did a manual setup of ProGet and everything seems to be working.
I did not run the service and the Administration screen says "Service is not currently running". I do see an "Ignore" button.
Do I need to run this service when hosting it in IIS? And if yes, how to install without running a webserver inside of it?

The service does need to be running mainly to index packages. If you selected the IIS option during install, the web server in the service will not run. If you are switching from integrated web server to IIS, make sure to update the service's .exe arguments to exclude the
/urlsargument and then the web server component of the service will not run.
