Cannot unistall/reinstall Buildmaster
-
I upgraded our server from 4.0.6 to 4.0.7 and then my problems started. I got the 'value cannot be null Parameter name activation code' similar to the previous poster. I could not get to the license page http://buildmaster-server/administration/licensing - I tried all sorts of permutations. (I also did not see any warning about license activation - in fact I thought I had activated it.)
So I thought I would try to uninstall and re-install the product.
Except I cannot uninstall it - the program is still registered in control panel. It seems to me that to get part way through and raises a silent exception. I have even ticked the database removal (I installed the sql express version) - but it is still there. The extensions and artefacts have gone.
The problem I cannot re-install - I get a message that Buildmaster is already installed. So now I am stuck I cannot uninstall or install.
How can I get passed the product is already installed message?

That is very strange. The uninstaller should always mark the product as removed, even if it can't uninstall all of the files.
To check for an installed instance, the installer looks at the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Inedo\BuildMaster and the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\BuildMaster registry keys. If you delete those, you will be able to reinstall the software.

Thanks that worked. Have now registered it.
Curiously when I reinstalled I selected the existing Sql Server instance and it declared the connection string asData Source=localhost\BuildMaster; Initial Catalog=BuildMaster;
But instead it placed the database in localhost - not localhost\BuildMaster.
I don't think it will be an issue - but If I wanted to move the database at a later date is there a simple connection string I can change?

To change the connection strings in BuildMAster, just edit the *appSettings.config files in the WebApp and Service directories.
