This fails like this. Is there something missing ?
npm config set registry http://localhost:81/npm/Pearson This is my local server. The default credentials are Admin/Admin. npm adduser Username: Adminnpm WARN Username must be lowercase

Based on the message, it would appear the registry is not pointing to ProGet, but is instead pointing to npmjs.org. I would do a wireshark or fiddler trace to see where it's actually going, and note what's being passed through.
