I am trying to be sure that when I deploy database code, I take a backup of the database. But I have a few deployables that could modify the database. I tried using dependencies, but that did not restrict me from running without a backup. it also only applies to non-imported deployables

Is it possible to be sure that I make a backup which could be triggered from various deployables? I might go down the route of action group predicates.

      Thanks

Predicates in combination with variables (e.g. the Set Variable Value action, $BackupDB = true, then check for that later as necessary) are a good idea for the meantime. We've had requests that imported deployables should be allowed to be dependencies and that feature is scheduled for a future version.
