Restart BuildMaster service from UI?
-
Hello there!
Is there a way to restart BuildMaster service from BuildMaster's UI?
On Service Status page does not have this option...Did this page use to have this option?
We are getting some errors that require to restart the service and we don't want to do this manually, on the server.
Thanks
Product: BuildMaster
Version: 4.7.3

Yes; if the service is in a "Stopped" or "Started" state, then there will be a "Stop" or "Start" hyperlink on the Manage Service / Service Status page (/administration/service-status).
If the web app cannot communicate with the Windows Service Host, or the service is in a "Stopping" or another state, then the link will not be there.
You can also restart the BuildMaster Web Application by going to the all settings page (/administration/advanced-configuration) and hitting SAVE CHANGES.

Hi Alana, thank you for your help.
I could not find the hyperlink to Stop or Start the service.
It shows that "The service is currently stopped.", "The service is starting..." or "The service is currently running." and after that I can't see the option to restart.
Any other idea why it is not showing this link on Service Status page?
Thanks

If the BuildMaster website is running with limited privileges, you may need to explicitly grant it permission to control the service. Normally the installer does this, but if for some reason that didn't happen, you can:
- Open a command prompt (as admin) on the BuildMaster server
- CD to the service directory (default C:\BuildMaster\Service)
- Run bmservice.exe AllowServiceControl /User=[USERNAME]
Where [USERNAME] is the account the web app is running as, e.g. "NETWORK SERVICE"

Hi Dean,
I do not use the installer to update BuildMaster's version. Maybe it is something personal but I can't install or update Buildmaster with installer. I always get error messages and it is easier to update manually. Maybe that is the problem.
After I made the changes you suggested, the link is displayed on the service status page, however, when I click to stop the service, nothing happens. But, I can start the service if the service is stopped.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Not using the installer should not cause any problems here. We will try to reproduce this behavior, because it sounds like you should be able to both start and stop the service. You may want to try restarting the website if you haven't tried that already.

I tried that. Actually, the stop/start link started showing after I restarted the app pool and website.
Please, keep me in touch for a solution.
Thanks
