Supporting certificate based authentication

Hi,
I have a question about supporting certificate based authentication (chip and pin in this case)
While IIS can be set up to support this for the Proget front end via a mix of IIS authentication and LDAP bindings, I see no way for either the NuGet infrastructure (NuGet.exe or VS plugins) to support this, with the same going for Maven.
I’d be very interested to have that supposition either confirmed or denied by someone who has a better grasp of the underlying security plumbing of NuGet.
