Support for RPM module streams?

  • I've browsed through the search and found plenty of topics about gpg signinig and the like, but no mention of modular streams anywhere. While yes, they were removed from Fedora 39, they still made it into RHEL 10 and are by far the best way to distribute different versions of a package with commands like

dnf module switch-to php:remi-8.5 to upgrade from 8.4 to 8.5.

Are streams supported in any way?

    Hi @henderkes,

I'm not familiar with module streams, but if you tried it in ProGet and it didn't work then likely not? It sounds like a different API/endpoint, but I haven't researched it at all.

However, based on how you described it ("removed from Fedora 39"), it sounds like one of those "good but old" technologies that don't make sense for us to implement.

    Thanks,
    Alana

  • Module streams are a little complicated for package maintainers, because the metadata has to stuff certain packages (all from the same folder) in one stream while others in the other. The end result is really nice though, because it makes switching versions of packages trivial.

Sounds like it's not supported then. Unfortunate, but understandable.
